සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් සිහිනය මම දකින්නට පටන් ගන්නේ කවදා ද ?
මෙයට වසර කිහිපයකට පෙර මම බරපතල ලෙස රෝගාතුර වූයෙමි. එකල මට තනියම පොතක් කියවාගන්නට පුළුවන් කමක් තිබුණේ නැත. විප්‍රවාසි මා වෙනුවෙන් සිංහල පොත් කියවන්නට කෙනකු සිටියේ ද නැත. එය පොත් කියවන්නට ඇබ්බැහි වූවකුට ගෙවා ගැනීමට අපහසු තරම් කාල සීමාවකි. එකල මට අහන්නට ඉංග්‍රීසි සහ ෆ්‍රංස භාෂා වලින් ඕඩියෝ පොත් ඕනෑතරම් තිබුණද සිංහල ඕඩියෝ පොත් තිබුණේ නැත.
කාලයක සිට ලංකාවේ දෘශ්‍යාබාධිත සහ දෘශ්‍යඌනිත පිරිස් අතරේ පොත් ඕඩියෝ කරගෙන අහන ක්‍රමවේදයක් තිබුණද අප වැනි ඔවුන්ගෙන් පරිබාහිර පිරිසට එම පොත් අසන්නට අවස්වථාක් හෝ අවසරයක් නොතිබුණි. එයට හේතුව ලේඛකයන් සහ ප්‍රකාශකයන් ඔවුන්ගේ කෘති මෙම දෘශ්‍යාබාධිත සංගම් වෙත ලබාදුන්නේ එහි ශ්‍රව්‍ය කෘතිය ඔවුන්ගෙන් පිටතට නොයා යුතුය යන කොන්දේසිය ද සමගය. ඒ හැරුණු විට ශ්‍රව්‍ය කෘති බිහිකරන්නට යම් යම් තනි තනි ප්‍රයත්න විටින් විට දැරෙන්නට ඇති මුත් ඒවා දුරදිග ගිය ප්‍රයත්න නොවීය. අපට ලංකාවේ එවැනි දුරදිග ගිය ප්‍රයත්න හමු නොවේ.
කවදා හෝ පොත් කිහිපයක්වත් යම් ප්‍රමිතියකින් යුතු ශ්‍රව්‍ය කෘති බවට පත්කළ යුතුය යන සිහිනය මා දකින්නට පටන් ගන්නේ මෙතැන් සිටය. සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් ආරම්භ කිරීමට හේතුපාදක වූ අනෙක් හේතුව මට ඉතා සංවේදී කරුණකි.
මගේ රෝගයේ උච්චතම අවස්ථාවේ මගේ ජීවිතායුෂ පිළිබඳව අවිනිශ්චිත තත්ත්වයක් ඇතිවිය. ඒ අවස්ථාවේ මගේ දියණිය මගෙන් ඉල්ලීමක් කළාය. "අම්මා මැරුණත් හැමදාම මගේ ළඟ ඉන්න බව මම දන්නවා. අම්මා මගේ ළඟ ඉන්නවා කියල මට දැනෙන්න ඉඳලා හිටලා පුංචි ඉඟියක් දෙන්න. පුංචි හුළඟක් හමනවා වගේ," ඇය කීවාය.
ඉතින්, සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් යනු මා ජීවත්වූ බවට, මා හැමදාම ජිවත්වන බවට මගේ දියණිය වෙනුවෙන් මා තබා යන සලකුණක් ද වන්නේය.
2020 ජුනි මස 22 වැනි දින නිල වශයෙන් ආරම්භ කළ පොත් ඇහෙන යූනලය, සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් යූටියුබ් නාලිකාව ඔස්සේ මේ වන විට ලංකාවේ පොත් අහන ශ්‍රාවක ප්‍රජාවක් බිහිකරන්නට, අඩුම තරමින් එවැනි ශ්‍රාවක පිරිසක් බිහිවීම ආරම්භ කරන්නට හැකිවීම ගැන මට ඇත්තේ නිහතමානී ආඩම්බරයකි.
බටහිර අපට ඇහෙන පැතලි ඕඩියෝ පොතත්, ලංකාවේ අපට අසා හුරු පුරුදු ගුවන්විදුලි නාට්‍යත් නොවන, ඒ අතරමැද තැනෙක වූ ඕඩියෝ පොතක් නිර්මාණය කිරීම මගේ අරමුණ විය. වැරදීම් තුළින්, අත්හදාබැලීම් තුළින් සහ අත්දැකීම් තුළින් සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් අපි, ක්‍රමයෙන් මා අපේක්ෂා කළ ඒ ප්‍රමිතිය කරා ලඟාවෙමින් සිටින්නෙමු.
අද අපි තවත් පියවරක් ඉදිරියට තබන්නෙමු. අද සිට සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් වෙබ් අවකාශයක් මෙන්ම නොමිලයේ පොත් ඇහෙන ජංගම යෙදවුමක් ද සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් අපි ඔබට තිලිණ කරන්නෙමු. මෙය අති විශිෂ්ට කෘති රාශියක ශ්‍රව්‍ය කෘති ඔබට නොමිලයේ ඇසීමට ලබාදෙන ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පළමු පොත් ඇහෙන ජංගම යෙදුම ද වන්නේය.
මෙතෙක් ශ්‍රව්‍ය කෘති බවට පත්කරන්නට පොත් ලබාදුන් සියලුම කතුවරුන්ට සහ ප්‍රකාශකයන්ට, සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් කණ්ඩායමට, අපට දිරි දෙන ඔබට සහ මේ සියල්ල කරන්නට මට ශක්තිය ලබාදෙන මගේ දියණිය සේරාට මගේ ආදරය සහ කෘතවේදීත්වය මෙහිලා සටහන් කල යුතුමය. ඔවුන්ගේ ඒ දායකත්වය, කැපවීම සහ ආදරය නොතිබුණා නම් සේරා ඕඩියෝ බුක්ස් මේ තරම් දුරක් රැගෙන එන්නට මට නොහැකි වන්නටත් ඉඩ තිබිණ.

Sera Audio Books is my dream. I made it true!
When did I begin dreaming of Sera Audio Books?
I became seriously ill a few years ago. Those days, I could not read a book on my own. Living abroad, I had nobody to read books to me in Sinhala. Those were extremely hard times, for someone addicted to books. Although I had enough and more audio books in English and French to listen to, there were no audio books at all in Sinhala.
For long enough, though, books had been converted to audio and made available to the visually handicapped and visually impaired communities in Sri Lanka. For any of us not included in those communities, however, such audio versions were unavailable and inaccessible, since authors and publishers had given their consent to those societies of the visually impaired only on condition that no audio version of their publications should be used outside those specific communities. Apart from that, although there surely would have been isolated attempts to create audio books, none of them have gone very far, and most certainly we do not find any such attempts having made much progress.
It was from this juncture that I began dreaming about creating at least a few audio books that conform to certain standards. The other reason behind starting Sera Audio Books is something very sensitive to me personally.
When my illness was at its peak of aggravation, there were uncertainties about how much time was left for me to live. At that point my daughter made a request. "Even if you die, Mom, I know you will be with me always. For me to feel that you are with me, give me a little sign now and then, like a gentle breeze," she said.
Sera Audio Books, then, is the mark I leave for my daughter, a sign of my life, a sign telling her that I live on, with her always.
Officially launched on 22 July 2020, Sera Audio Books, the YouChannel where books are heard, is the pioneering endeavor to foster an audience who listen to books in Sri Lanka, at least to create such an audience. The success of that effort so far, gives me a sense of pride and immense satisfaction.
My aim was to create an audio book which would be neither the flat audio book we hear in the Western world, nor the familiar Sri Lankan radio dramas, but strikes a balance somewhere in between. Finding our way through many mistakes, experiments and experiences, we at Sera Audio Books are making steady progress towards the high standards which I aimed for.
Today, we take another step forward. From now on, we present you with a Sera Audio Books website as well as a mobile app where you can listen to free audio books. In Sri Lanka, this is the first ever mobile account by which gives you listening access to an array of splendid audio books.
I avail myself of this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude and affection to all authors and publishers who gave their books for creation of audio books, to the Sera Audio Books team, to all of you who encourage us in our endeavor, and to my beloved daughter Sera who gives me the strength to accomplish all this and more. Had it not been for all their contributions, commitment and love, it would not have been possible for me to have brought Sera Audio Books this far.
Sera Audio Books are for all of you whether with eyesight or not.

Pioneering member and permanent narrator of Sera Audio Books, Deshani has contributed to over twenty Sera audio books to date. She is also the first professional book narrator in Sri Lanka.

Having served the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation as a Director for several decades, Thilina Samarasooriya is a distinguished voice personality in the field of audio presentations in Sri Lanka. An independent media researcher, trainer, audio presentation analyst and lecturer, he has contributed with his unique identity to many Sera Audio Books including 'Battalangunduwa.'
SADEESH KRISHNAPILLAI
ශ්‍රී ලංකා ගුවන්විදුලි සංස්ථාවේ ප්‍රවෘත්ති සංස්කාරකවරයකු, තීරු ලිපිකරුවකු සහ සන්නිවේදන පුහුණුකරුවකු වන සදීෂ් ක්‍රිෂ්පිණල්ලේ දමිල භාෂාවෙන් වූ සේරා ශ්‍රව්‍ය කෘති සඳහා හඬ දායකත්වය ලබාදෙන්නේය.
